The Extremes (Two of Them, Anyway)

. . . grace rarely comes as a gentle invitation to change. More often than not it appears in the form of an assault, something we first are tempted to flee.

**********

Divine love is incessantly restless until it turns all woundedness into health, all deformity into beauty, all embarrassment into laughter.

~ Beldon C. Lane, The Solace of Fierce Landscapes: Exploring Desert and Mountain Spirituality (1998)

**********

I don't know whether I agree with either of these two statements or not. I would like to. But I find that everything is up for reassessment these days.

I certainly believe the first one. I've lived it. Who among us, once we have reached a certain age, has not?

Given some things in my own life right now, I'd like to believe the first one. I'm not sure about the 2nd.

I've heard "call" described as grace is here. something my friend has run away from, has avoided, has said "why me" to . . . . I think I see grace as a gentle descent of a warm but light blanket . . . .
I do like the second definition though I don't know if I agree.

I don't know if I agree with Lan'es statements either, but I resonate with the description of "fierce landscapes."
